City Diary – a metting on a long-term research project and an artbook „City Diary”

“City Diary” is a long-term ongoing research project based on observation of cities (Berlin, Seoul, New York, Krakow, Tarnow, Warsaw). It can be consider as a play. It takes an inspiration from the Situationist’s psychogeography, which combines subjective and objective knowledge and studies and considers architecture as the simplest means of articulating time and space, of modulating reality, of engendering dreams.

“City diary” consists of subjective analysis of ephemeral moments, invisible images and spontaneous situations generated through the urban reality/urban relativity. Each page relates to specific location and specific time, but in fact it relates to any location and any time. It states that one city can be present in any other city. It consist of drawings, maps, urban plans, collages poems and comments.

In the shadow they flourish – installation in urban space

October 10 (Saturday), Main Market Square in Tarnów, 4 p.m.-6 p.m.

Jaro Varga reaches for futuristic designs of Jan Głuszak Dagarama, an architect from Tarnów, creator of visionary projects, author of a philosophical treatise entitled “Utopia documented: De labore Solis (epiphenomena of the mind)”. He builds his work on the figure of the shadow, he uses it for activating one of the structures proposed by Dagarama with the intent of populating Mars.

The installation “In the shade they flourish” is organised around the shadow of ideas which have never been realised, so it provokes questions both about the fears and needs that inspired them, and the concerns which stopped them from being implemented. The increasing figure of the shadow also enlarges the space of doubt. Questions abound, including the question of what lies behind the motif of growth, development and expansion, how the coexistence of humans with the world of nature and technology looks like, and what kind of humans is emerging from the proposed architectural solutions.

The project uses works of Jan Głuszak Dagarama, kept in the collections of the Museum of Architecture in Wrocław.
